customized massage
Discuss with the therapist to design a custom massage for you to better meet all your needs. The following are a breakdown of the styles of massage utilized. Let your therapist know what appeals to you to create the perfect therapeutic experience.
swedish massage
Long flowing strokes make this a relaxing treat. The five strokes of Swedish massage are the foundation in which all massage is built on: Effleurage, Petrissage, Friction, Vibration, and Tapotement.
deep tissue massage
A more intense experience utilizing different massage working tools (forearms, elbows, fists). Deeper pressure allows access to deeper layers within the body. However, there are limitations for everyone. If it really hurts, let your therapist know!
myofascial release
This style is rooted in Ida Rolf’s form of Structural Integration. Slow strokes of varying pressure are used to stretch and move the fascia (connective tissue) of the body. Great for areas of chronic pain and inflammation. A “corrective” massage with emphasis on moving the structural framework of the body into positions of equilibrium.
sports massage
Stretches from sports massage are utilized with almost every client. Stretching is a quick, effective way to get tissue to relax! Combining stretching AND massage techniques simultaneously can be incredibly effective as well.
cranial sacral
Gentle holds of the cranium influence the flow and pressure the Cerebrospinal fluid. Great for migraines or any form of chronic tension in the head or neck.
prenatal massage
A massage done mostly in side-lying position for the comfort of the mother and protection of the abdomen. When Ian started as a massage student, his wife was seven months pregnant. So he learned how to do prenatal massage very quickly! Prenatal is beneficial for expecting mothers to help cope with the massive changes her body is under. It is a common myth that massage shouldn’t be done on an expecting mother in her first trimester, but massage can be performed in any trimester. It’s perfectly safe and beneficial for the mother. If you are expecting, please let your therapist know.
